Diligent ant pest control requires a number of things that you can do to help keep your property ant free. At times you can spend countless hours on housekeeping and still find the conga line of ants trying to find a food source that will satisfy them before they move on.

In order to treat your ant problem you should first know what you're up against. These tiny creatures called ants have been around for ages. The fact that it can carry 100x its own body weight is enough proof how strong and determined this pest is.

Survival tactics of the ant will have this little forager seek food from leafs, twigs, bark from a tree to the crumbs that drop from your dining room table is enough for the ant to survive on. The determination of the ant can see them gain entry to the smallest crack, window opening and other places you may not even of thought of.

1. Carpenter ants. Coming out mostly at night, these black-colored ants are so small that there are some people who mistakenly think that they are termites. They are mainly food foragers but do not sting.

2. All fire ant sitings should be reported immediately or risk a fine as they are listed as a noted pest in Queensland. The red coloured ant delivers a sting that may need to seek immediate first aid if bitten.

3. With bull ants these ants can deliver painful stings and are aggressive. Usually if you apply an ice pack or commercially available spray may be used to relieve the pain of the sting. If there is evidence of an allergic reaction, medical attention should be sought.

I apply the KISS keep it simple stupid method first before I try other means. Clean up after dinner and don't leave dishes in the sink. Sweep up crumbs on the floor and around where you have eaten.

When it comes to ants in the home I try to steer clear of insecticides and usually use a cloth that has been dipped in a mild bleach or surface cleaner. I then target where the ants are gaining entry and seal this area immediately.
