In order to achieve social-behavioral, aesthetic or environmental outcomes when designing outdoor public areas, structures and landmarks, the art of landscape architecture Toronto is used. Existing landscape social, geological and ecological processes and conditions are investigated systematically. Professionals in this line of work are called landscape architects.

In this multi discipline field of work there are several incorporated architectural aspects including geography, horticulture, industrial design, botany, the fine arts, earth science, environmental psychology and ecology. Part of the work of this architect is to site plan campuses, reclaim mines and landfills, create public parks, manage large areas of wilderness and design residential estates and civil infrastructure. The architect is also involved with reviewing proposals to authorize and supervise a contract for construction work.

Environmental audits and assessments are conducted by the architect who also appears at a land use inquiry as an expert witness. Applications for revenue and capital grants are prepared and supported by the architect. In most cases a licensed landscape architect approves and reviews all designs for public designs. To provide counsel on landscapes long term care and development landscape managers are used for their knowledge.

Experts with specialist skills like botany, soil science, geomorphology or hydrology are called landscape scientists. These scientists have projects ranging from site surveys to the assessment of the ecological system in broad areas for the purpose of management or planning. It is also their job to report on development impact or the important role played by a given species in a given area. This field includes expert planners who do the planning for the recreational, ecological, location and scenic aspects of rural, coastal and urban land use.

There are written policy and strategy statements that embody the work of planners. A planner may apply for additional specialism such as landscape law or archaeology. Intensive and extensive designs for roof gardens that provide storm water management, aesthetics, evaporation cooling, habitat creation and sustainable architecture are done by green roof designers.

The period before the 19th century this field of architecture was referred to as gardening. It largely involved master planning and designing gardens for royal properties, government centers, religious complexes, palaces and manor houses. It is through this century that urban planning grew to a more important need. The tradition of gardening was combined with emerging city planning to give this field of architecture a unique focus to service these needs.

This kind of architecture has been majorly influenced by people like Frederick Law Olmsted who created some well known parks in the century's 2nd half. Some of the parks he completed include Central Park New York, Prospect Park Brooklyn and Emerald Necklace Park Boston. While responding to various movements this discipline continued developing through the 20th century as well as in the 21st century. Another notable person in this field is Ian McHarg whose great influence was brought about by his system of analyzing site layers in order to compile a complete understanding regarding qualitative attributes of a certain area.

Today GIS Geographic Information Systems is based on his system. This software is used on landscape architecture Toronto to analyze materials that are on and in the surface of the Earth. It is also used by professionals of natural resources and forestry, geographers, urban planners etc. Many countries have a professional institute that comprises of professional members. It exists to protect this profession and to promote its interests sometimes even regulate the practice.
